As Ireland is faced with an Insurance crisis, the Inflatable Hire Industry has not escaped unscathed. In late summer 2019 the one and only underwriter in the Irish marketplace 'Leisure Insure' announced that it was to leave the Irish marketplace and was no longer renewing policies or taking on new business. This dealt a major blow to many Irish hire companies, many of which are currently unable to trade until the issue is resolved.
What does this mean for our customers?
Fortunately, the First Class Castles insurance policy is honoured and upheld until late July 2020 by our existing insurer. In the meantime we have engaged with the IIHF (Irish Inflatables Hirers Association) in obtaining a group insurance scheme for it's members operating reputable and sustainable businesses. Talks to date have been very positive with alternative underwriters in the UK & Europe. It is hoped that a solution will be provided in the coming weeks. This however will mean tighter controls within our industry, increased premiums and a more difficult trading environment. All we ask of our customers is to stick with us and thank you for your continued support.
We strongly advise our customers the following?
We understand the marketplace is competitive and we aim to price as competitively as possible. If you're shopping around please ensure you're comparing like for like... not all companies are the same. In terms of Health & Safety, these are the key points to be aware of:
- Ensure the product you're hiring meets EN14960 Safety Standards, reputable suppliers will be able to show you a certificate of compliance
- Ensure the inflatable is fit for purpose and had received an annual inspection, this information will too be displayed on the certificate
- Ensure the company has full public liability insurance
- Ensure the company had full employee liability insurance
- Ensure valid Risk Assessments are on hand
- Ask to see a copy of the companies Method Statement if required
- Ask to see a copy of the companies Safety Statement if required
